The 1997 World Series win for the Florida Marlins over the Cleveland Indians was the team's first in franchise history. The team would win again in 2003 to bring the franchise total to two. At the end of the regular season, the Florida Marlins finished the regular season with a record 92-70 coming in second place in their division behind the Braves. Despite not winning their division, the Marlins would go on to beat the San Fransico Giants in the Division Series three games to zero. The Marlins would then go on to beat the Atlanta Braves four games to two, upsetting the heavily favorited Braves. In the World Series, the Marlins would play the 86-75 Cleveland Indians. Despite the Marlins being the higher seed, the Indians took the Marlins all the way to a game seven. In the end, the Marlins would end up beating the Indians 3-2 in the final game of the series to win their first-ever World Series title in franchise history. The World Series MVP for the Florida Marlins ended up being Livan Hernandez, who pitched two games in the series and won both games that he pitched.
